Indoor Air Quality becoming even more important

Recently, China has been making the headlines because of its air pollution crises caused by CO2 emissions from industrial activities, transportation, electricity production and coal burning. The smog produced in China is so severe that it has closed airports, roads and schools and increased the instances of heart and lung hospital required treatment.

 

Chinese residence have been wearing face masks to protect themselves from the toxic particles and have even been advised by officials to stay indoors when particulate levels become particularly toxic. But is indoor air quality as safe as you might think?

Air pollution is commonly thought of as an outdoor problem but recent research has extrapolated evidence that indoor air quality is not as healthy as once believed. As much as 25% of outdoor pollutants can filter indoors during periods of dense smog.

The good news is that indoor air pollution can be reduced by ensuring that air filters are of good quality and are changed regularly. High efficiency air filters are widely available and proficiently remove dangerous particles from the air.

When buying air filters, customer should pay particular attention to the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating on the filter. The higher the rating, the higher the filters ability to capture particles.
